Dracula

I am so normal about the Edward Gorey set design production of Dracula (LIES!!!!).

Edward Gorey, iconic gothic writer and illustrator, was hired to design the sets and costumes for the 1977 Broadway revival of Dracula. The result is an experience right off the pages of one of his books. Iconic thin lines, crosshatching, wonky shapes and limited earthy palette. The show won the tony for costumes but somehow not for sets??? You can even buy a paper doll version of the stage and characters, which I do kinda really want.

They should let illustrators design sets more often. There's also a really amazing set that Maurice Sendak designed for The Magic Flute that is just stunning. That one I had the opportunity to see in person, unfortunately this Dracula one I have not but it lives in my brain whenever osmeone brings up unconventional set design (or more often, tries to tell me that there are rigid rules around set design and realism).

You want photos, I want to show you photos, here are photos:

What else can I say!!! This is what theater should look like!!!
