Daedalus Games
My research so far into Daedalus Games & Aster's history
As mentioned on the home page, Aster was created as the mascot for game store Daedalus Games's local gaming magazine. I've got a bit of a backlog of info I've been saving up that I still need to organize and get out here, and there's recent stuff too (honestly, it's the recent stuff that finally got me to make an archive for it all).
Daedalus Games was started by my parents: a married couple and their best friend. One did the software, one did the writing, and the third figured out how a company was run. They wanted to make games in the 70's, moved to the US to follow computer degrees, and split off into their own company not long after to make text-based adventures. To keep the lights on they sold bootlegs and wrote articles, graduating to a brick-and-mortar making the same legal sales of games they used to pirate. But the writing and storytelling was always what drew them in, and when the work on the store kept them from making games they combined the two in a passion project. A gaming magazine that would advertise the store, their own games, and make some money back from its own sales.
Hey, that's when I was born!
